Accident Scene Management by Road Guardians

Road Guardians ASM training is taught at a higher level than basic first aid and CPR. Many specifics of motorcycle trauma like jaw thrust rescue breathing, helmet removal, traffic control, and moving the injured are not taught in First Aid and CPR. It is critically important to understand the difference between Trauma and Medical conditions.

You’ll learn:

  • How to secure a crash scene to prevent further harm

  • How to assess injuries and prioritize care

  • Helmet removal (when necessary and safe)

  • Basic first aid and bleeding control

  • How to communicate effectively with 911 and EMS

  • Legal and emotional aspects of being a lay responder

No medical background needed—just a willingness to learn.

* This course is scheduled externally.

  • Teamwork and communication in a crisis

  • The Chain of Survival and when to activate EMS

Stop The Bleed

STOP THE BLEED® is an official program of the U.S. Department of Defense. The program is designed to train and equip the public to be able to treat traumatic injuries involving severe bleeding until the first responders arrive. It is based on lessons learned by the DoD during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on how best to control severe bleeding.

First Watch Safety Training is able to provide this course through an Educational License from the DoD.

The main skills and knowledge areas covered include:

  1. Recognizing life-threatening bleeding

    • How to identify when bleeding is severe enough to be fatal.

    • Understanding the urgency—bleeding can cause death in minutes.

  1. Basic principles of bleeding control

    • The “ABCs of bleeding”: Alert (call 911), Bleeding (identify source), and Compress (apply pressure).

  1. Techniques to control bleeding

    • Direct pressure: Using hands, cloth, or gauze to press firmly on the wound.

    • Wound packing: How to pack deep wounds with gauze or clean fabric to maintain pressure at the bleeding site.

    • Tourniquet use: When and how to properly apply a tourniquet, and dispelling myths about safety.

  1. Using available resources

    • Commercial supplies (tourniquets, hemostatic dressings).

    • Everyday items (belts, clothing) if medical gear isn’t available.

  1. Maintaining safety and readiness

    • Protecting yourself with gloves or barriers if available.

    • Staying calm and giving clear instructions if others are present.

The overall goal is to empower bystanders to act immediately—because uncontrolled bleeding is one of the most preventable causes of death after trauma
